Burying a Bomber

 



     A foreigner that kills innocent American citizens has no right to have his/her body buried in U.S. soil.  "An employee at the funeral home trying to find a burial site for the body of Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev tells Fox News that his mother has expressed interest in sending it back to Russia, as cemeteries are refusing to accept the remains." This man should not be allowed to be buried within our country.The Boston bombing is a terrible tragedy and this man has no right to be put in our American soil. "Everyone wants him sent back to Russia," said Peter Stefan, the director of the funeral home, according to NBC News. If any funeral home chooses to bury this man then the consequences could be severe. The funeral home would probably never get business again, the funeral would be plagued by protesters, and the gravesite would get vandalized constantly by furious U.S. citizens. Not to mention the danger it could impose on the funeral home owners family.

     It will be impossible for the family to find a burial site for this man. "Stefan said Monday that he is looking outside of Massachusetts and does not think Russia will take the body." I believe that the smart choice for the family would be to cremate the body. If they choose to bury it then it could be several more weeks or maybe even never before they could find someone willing to bury the body. Not many people or even countries want to deal with the problems that this body will cause.

We must get rid of this terrible persons body for good. "The Tsarnaev brothers are accused of carrying out the Boston bombings using pressure cookers packed with explosives, nails, ball bearings and metal shards. The attack killed three people and injured more than 260 others near the marathon's finish line." If buried, his gravesite might be a shrine for other radical Muslims. They could use his actions as fuel for their possible actions. This is why I believe that his body needs to be dropped into the ocean like Osama bin ladens body was to avoid it becoming a shrine or a holy place for other radical muslim terrorists.

How Children View Parenting

      I can relate to this article, "5 Things Parents Shouldn't Say To Their Kids", because my parents have said some of these things to me and my brother. A major one is "I'm going to leave without you!" When I was told this as a cihld, it scared me at first, and I even had bad dreams about them leaving me behind. Even worse, I began catching on pretty quickly to the fact that they weren't going to follow through, so I didn't always believe their threats. Debora Gilboa, a parenting speaker, says, "If you want them to believe what we say is true, we cannot say something that is patently false." My parents did this to me but my brother is in 8th grade and they need to learn not to make this mistake with him. It may be the reason that I sometimes don't even believe their threats now, like when they say theyre going to take away my car keys.
      Another thing I've heard a lot from many parents is "Say you're sorry!". Have you ever met a person who is constantly apologizing out of habit? Luckily, I'm not too bad about it, but I know some people who are really annoying about apologizing. "Young children don't automatically understand why they have to apologize." If a child goes through their childhood apologizing and not even knowing what for, they'll do that all their life about every little thing. Puerto Ricans Strike Back

In a recent magazine entitled Upfront by The New York Times, an article named "Puerto Rico: The 51st State?" enforms readers of the possibility of allowing Puerto Rico to be officially apart of the United States, making it the 51st state in the Union.

For the first time ever, Puerto Rico has cast a ballot "in favor of... becoming the 51st state." Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory and has been since 1898, during the Spanish-American War. Now, more than ever, the citizens of Puerto Rico are ready for a major change and hope to one day be an addition to the 50 states of America.

Although the people who live in Puerto Rico are considered American citizens, "those living in the U.S. enjoy full constitutional rights." Puerto Rico is about 1,000 miles from the coast of Miami, Florida and has only one non-voting member of Congress. Also, those living in Puerto Rico cannot vote in the presidential elections, making the residents feel not as important as those who actually live in the United States.


This article certainly caught my attention. The fact that Puerto Rico may have the opportunity to become the 51st state is very interesting. It also reminded me how some states were wanting to secede from the Union not too long ago, after the election of President Obama. It's funny how those who are already states and benefit from all America has to offer want to secede, while Puerto Rico would love to join the Union as a state.

It is unfortunate that the residents of Puerto Rico feel like "second-class citizens." It is not sure whether Congress will actually approve the statehood for Puerto Rico, considering it is a very important decision and the United States is dealing with enough issues, including the economy and certain nuclear threats from North Korea. Eventually, it may become an official state though, and those living in Puerto Rico will not stop hoping for this day will come.

Europe's New Deadly Disease

     In a recent news article entitled, New SARS-like Virus, Kate Kelland informs the viewers of Yahoo! News of a deadly new disease that has taken over Europe. According to the World Health Organization, the virus was identified in Septemeber of 2012. WHO explains that SARS, "or Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, symptoms... include respirtatory illness, fever, and coughing." The virus is currently showing person-to-person transmission. Viruses such as SARS usually travel in airborne droplets, causing this case to be very interesting. Tom Wilkinson, a lecturer in respiratory medicine at Britain's University of Southampton, has stated  said that "if [the virus] turns out to be like the previous SARS outbreak, it may prove quite slow to spread..." Doctors are working day and night in order to treat those infected. They are also trying to come up with a vaccine in order to prevent more infections. This article caught my eye because of the fact that some people have actually died from the virus. Many viruses already have vaccines to prevent them, but this one is mutated and transmits through human contact. It reminded me of the Black Plague, a disease that killed a huge population of Europe and Asia back in the Middle Ages. 

         Kidnapped

 In a recent news article in MSN News entitled New Mexico Girl Found Locked In Cage, Russell Contreras informs his readers of a young girl who was found recently locked in a wooden crate by two adults.
          According to Las Cruces police, Patriarchias, the woman responsible for the act, and her boyfriend, Edmond Gonzales, "left the girl in the cage while they took her three children to an elementary school." Apparently, Patriarchias was not worried about the girl, saying that she would not be gone long. Instead of only leaving her at home, she decided to lock her up in a wooden crate.
         This article interested me, as well as angered me. The fact that someone can simply lock a small child up in a cage, as if they were not a human being, astonishes me. Also, I cannot help but wonder if the other children living with this couple have been taken away by officials as well, for they should be under the supervision of these terrible, sick minded people.
          Luckily for the young girl, she was found alive and well. Although a bad situation, there is always some good found in everything. The girl was found early on and the adults responsible are now under watch and also have a $25,000 cash only bond. The bad news is that Patriarchias has been released, though hopefully her other children have been taken into child services as well.

Shark Attack

Yesterday, my mom asked me if I'd like to go to Hawaii for spring break. The usual thoughts that come to mind when I think of Hawaii are the white beaches, the beautiful water, and the huge rainforests. But then I heard about a man that was attacked by a bull shark. The shark bit off his index finger and took a big chunk out of his thigh. One of the witnesses says, "It's always surprising to have a shark attack because there is such a low risk generally of shark attacks, but it's not uncommon in that area for shark activity." I know that the chances of a shark attack are low, but are the white beaches, beautiful ocean, and rainforests are worth being attacked by a shark. A lifegaurd states, "If people could swim at patrolled locations it at least gives us an opportunity to get people clear of the water if there is a shark in the vicinity." The safe zones are the only places ill be swimming if I ever take a trip to Hawaii. After reading this article, it really opens my eyes to how danger can lurk in peacful places.
